North Lake Tahoe (in Winter)

With season passes to Northstar, we became partial (and admittedly a little lazy) the past few years, making North Lake Tahoe our winter home away from home.

Stay

While nothing beats staying at a ski resort in the village for ease and convenience, for longer stays we like to stay in Kings' Beach or Carnelian Bay, because homes have yards where the kids can spend hours playing in the snow.  I recommend using Luxury Retreats or Tahoe Luxury Properties to book any stay in the area.

Close By

  • Go sledding at Granlibakken Sled Hill;

  • Visit Truckee, a charming former logging town, with lots of boutiques and restaurants;

  • Besides skiing and snowboarding, try ice skating at Northstar

  • Cross the state line and take in a movie at Incline Village Cinema;

  • Go for a hike into the wilderness or around the lake on one of the many paved trails in the area.

    Eat

  • Moe's BBQ is a crowd pleaser and one of our all-time favorite places to eat in the area.  With its new lake-side location it's great for parties small and large or take-out is always an option.

  • Lanza's for classic Italian dishes.  No reservations are taken, but if you come right when they open (which is easy to do with hungry kids), you'll get right in.  Take-out is also an option.

  • Caliente Mexican Restaurant is a great option with good food and a nice atmosphere.
